Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir has praised out-of-contract wingman Liam Henry after he put forth arguably his most impressive AFL outing in Saturday night's resounding victory over Essendon.

The 21-year-old Henry, who has managed just 34 games for Fremantle across his four-year career, notched 32 possessions, eight marks, 514 metres gained, five score involvements, and four inside-50s against the Bombers at Optus Stadium.

Henry still finds himself without a contract at Cockburn beyond this season, meaning virtually every game from here until the cessation of Fremantle's 2023 campaign is a significantly important one in terms of proving he still belongs.

Speaking to the media post-game, Longmuir praised Henry's effort, noting that establishing consistency is one of the wingman's next major points of improvement.

"I think with Liam it's been about consistency. I think we've all seen his really good efforts and moments in games that are really strong," Longmuir said on Saturday.

"It's about bringing up maybe the bottom end and making it more of a consistent game and being on task for longer and being able to concentrate for long periods of time and not have those lapses in games which let him down.

"He was really good tonight โ€ฆ he's been working really hard on his contest, I thought he had some (good) moments, [some] 50-50 balls today which he marked and regained control for us, he had some moments where he had to take a ground ball and cop the tackle under pressure coming his way and he got us a stoppage.

"I think one of the moments was [during the] last quarter where he got us a stoppage inside forward 50 from a 50-50 ground ball and [it resulted in a goal] ... He's been working really hard on his game and it was good reward for effort tonight."

Initially deployed as a roaming small-forward at the outset of his AFL career, Henry never averaged more than 9.3 disposals per game until this season, as he has managed a mean of 17.4 possessions per contest, finding himself around the football more often.

As the pointy end of the season shapes as a critical one for Henry's footballing future, he did his chances of a new Dockers contract little harm on Saturday.

Henry and the Dockers travel to play the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium in Round 16, as they look to make it back-to-back wins and press for a finals position.
