John Worsfold will remain as Essendon's senior coach for the foreseeable future, with the Bombers announcing he will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2020 season.

Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell spoke to the club's website about the decision, and was thrilled to have secured Worsfold's services for another two seasons.

“We are pleased to re-sign John as senior coach of the Club for a further two years,” Campbell told essendonfc.com.au.

“John has been a great addition to our Club through what has been a unique and challenging period. He has brought an enormous amount of stability, and has shown wonderful resilience and commitment to see Essendon emerge in a better place.”

“We feel the progress the team has made under John’s leadership, both culturally and on the playing field is extremely positive, and we believe he is the right man to take us forward.”

2018 marks Worsfold's third year as Essendon coach, after joining the club for the start of the 2016 season.

He helped the Bombers back to the finals last year, their first finals campaign since 2014.

“I’m really excited to re-commit to the Club and head into the next three years with a clear vision of what we want to achieve together,” Worsfold told the club's website.

“I’d also like to thank the Board, Executive, and in particular the coaching group for their continued support and hard work.”

“We have a playing group which has established a really clear vision, a strong culture and elite standards. We believe this group of players is going to play a lot of football together, and hopefully win a lot of finals moving forward.”

“We know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us if we want to achieve success, but we’re excited and ready for the challenge of taking our game to the next level.”

Before joining the Bombers, Worsfold was a premiership coach at the Eagles, leading West Coast for 12 seasons between 2002-2013.
