Adelaide Crows youngster Tyson Stengle has been handed a four-match ban by the club.

It comes after Stengle was stopped by police for driving an unregistered vehicle and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

The Crows released the following statement on the matter.

โ€œCrows forward Tyson Stengle will be unavailable for AFL selection for four matches as part of his Club-imposed sanction for a drink driving offence,โ€ the statement reads.

โ€œStengle has also been fined $2500 with the money to be donated to charity and he will undertake a road safety education program.โ€

โ€œHe was stopped by police for driving an (sic) unregistered vehicle in Adelaideโ€™s south-western suburbs in the early hours of April 9, and subsequently recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

โ€œCrows Head of Football Adam Kelly said the sanction reflected the serious nature of the indiscretion and reiterated Stengle had clearly breached the Clubโ€™s standards, as well as those of the broader community.

โ€œTyson continues to show remorse for his actions and these sanctions are an expression of our disappointment,โ€ Kelly said.

โ€œIt is crucial that he receives an appropriate education on the significant risks and danger of driving while under the influence of alcohol, and road safety more broadly.

โ€œWe are thankful that no one was hurt and the Club will continue to provide Tyson with the necessary support to ensure he can push through this difficult period.โ€

โ€œThe Club-imposed sanction was determined by senior management who took into consideration the 21-year-oldโ€™s delayed reporting of the indiscretion.

โ€œStengle is regretful of his actions and expressed his extreme disappointment.

โ€œI know that I have let a lot of people down and I want to apologise for what were some poor decisions,โ€ he said.

โ€œI am determined to win back the trust of my teammates and coaches, and that starts with focussing on my training and working hard.โ€
