With James Hird being courted by multiple teams about a possible return within the AFL ranks, many believe the jobs being offered don't quite fit the criteria for the former Bomber.

It broke late last week that clubs, including Fremantle, were speaking to Hird in regards to a return to football, with a job as an opposition analyst being offered for the troubled ex-coach.

However, former great Leigh Matthews has criticised the Dockers, stating that the position offered is not fit for Hird, labelling him 'over-qualified'.

“James Hird as a part-time opposition analyst, talk about over qualified. Sounds a bit like Albert Einstein running errands for the science department,” Matthews tweeted.

A statement that former Suns coach, Rodney Eade, has agreed with.

“I think Scott Lucas and Leigh Matthews have said that he’s over-qualified. It’s the sort of job that does take a bit of time" Eade told Bill and Boz.

“I think he’s running his own business now, so I wouldn’t have thought that sort of job would appeal to him, I think it would be more in a leadership role at a club.

“But I think it’s good that AFL clubs are opening their arms to him. I think it’s great.”

If he was to accept the new role, it would be the first time the former Bomber would return to the football environment since his infamous drug saga ended his coaching tenure in 2015.
