Power great Kane Cornes has labelled Collingwood star Brodie Grundy the most dominant player in the competition.

The Magpies ruckman is enjoying a stellar season, averaging 21.1 disposals, 42.6 hitouts, 4.4 tackles and 5.5 clearances per game.

The 25-year old starred in Friday night's win over the Swans, tallying 64 hit-outs, 18 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances, six score involvements, five marks and a goal assist.

Cornes believes the new rules suit Grundy's game to a tee, who he says is having more influence for his team than anyone in the competition.

“He knows he can dominate and it’s not just the ruck contest, I think the new rules have been terrific for him, he can now grab it out of the air with no consequences,” Cornes told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“He’s stronger than everyone else, but it’s more than just that, it’s the way he covers the ground.

“You watch him and he genuinely has the running capacity of a midfielder. He’s got repeat speed, he’s got power, he’s got endurance and he’s unstoppable.

“Max Gawn last year just shaded him as the best ruckman in the competition I thought, you almost go as far as to say Grundy is the most dominant player in the game right now.

“Who is having as big an influence as Grundy for their team this year?”

Former Bulldogs skipper Bob Murphy echoed Cornes' comments, stating that Grundy has the capacity to break down opponents.

“It’s a dominance that deflates the opposition too,” he said.

“You saw on the telecast, Callum Sinclair coming to the bench, he was clearly frustrated and John Longmire was visibly frustrated.

“You spend all week trying to work out how you’re going to negate Grundy and then he just destroys you. He destroyed Sydney last night.”
