Fremantle's stellar season will only be bolstered by the return of Caleb Serong as Justin Longmuir all but confirmed the midfielder's presence at Thursday's game against Geelong.

Serong missed the last three games due to a calf injury, and will be a welcome return to the senior side who has suffered only one loss, which came in Round 1 against the Cats.

"We had the luxury of giving him an extra week off to make sure we get him right for the back half of the year" Longmuir said.

"I'll be surprised if he doesn't get through training and is not ready to play."

However, Longmuir was less confident about Matthew Johnson (hamstring) and Brennan Cox's (knee) prospects as the pair overcome their respective injuries.

"We'll see how they go at training and we'll have a chat," Longmuir added.

If this week's Geelong vs Fremantle fixture feels oddly familiar, it might be because you've seen a very similar line up earlier this season. Geelong played in Opening Round before beating Fremantle in Round 1, the Dockers first game of the season. Now the Cats are hot off the heels of a satisfying win against Gold Coast and ready to face down Fremantle, who are returning after a bye.

Longmuir has assured fans, that despite deja vu, they have nothing to worry about.

"It's a slightly different situation," Longmuir said. "We're playing some really good footy at the moment and clearly you don't want to break that momentum..."

And Longmuir isn't allowing last week's bye to affect his team's momentum.

"The beauty of our bye is it's a little bit shorter, so there's no messing around," Longmuir said.

"I feel like our players have come back really keen and eager to get back into their work."
