Fremantle have unveiled Lisa Webb as the club's new AFLW coach ahead of the 2023 season.

Webb, a former player and assistant coach with the Dockers, returns to the club after a coaching stint with the Western Bulldogs' AFLW squad last year as the Dogs' midfield coach.

The 38-year-old will now venture back to Western Australia as Fremantle's new senior coach, replacing the departed Trent Cooper to become just the second ex-AFLW player to land a head coaching role following Lauren Arnell's appointment at Port Adelaide.

The Dockers confirmed on Friday that Webb has signed a three-year deal to become the club's third senior coach in their short history, following Cooper and inaugural coach Michelle Cowan.

“It's a really proud moment for me and my family,” Webb said in a club statement.

“Fremantle is a Club close to my heart and I am so excited to get to work and help guide such a talented group of young women.”

Webb played six games for Fremantle in the 2018 AFLW season after joining the club as the second overall pick through the previous year's Rookie Draft.

Webb is expected to begin her role in March, with players having returned to the training track this week despite details on the next AFLW season yet to be made clear.

Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick expressed his delight in having Webb back in the Fremantle fold.

“The Senior Coach Selection Committee ran an incredibly professional and thorough process that ensured we had an appropriately considered approach to the appointment of Lisa from what was a high-quality group of final candidates," said CEO Simon Garlick.

“We're thrilled to have Lisa return to the Club. She is a quality person who will add greatly to the culture and environment at the Club.

“She has shown enormous talent as a coach since she was first appointed into a coaching role at the Club in 2019 and we believe her capability, drive, care and commitment will assist greatly as we look to create the very best high-performance environment for our W program.

“I would like to welcome Lisa back to Fremantle and we look forward to exciting times together.”

Fremantle managed just three wins in their Season Seven campaign, their first season without a finals appearance since 2018.
