Versatile tall Jackson Trengove has announced his retirement after playing 186 clubs across Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.

Trengove took to Instagram on Thursday to share the news of his decision to call time on his career.

“My AFL career has been full of highs and lows, but I have enjoyed the most part of living out what started out as just a boy with a big dream,” he said.

“I close this chapter of my life with the greatest memories with my team mates who I’ve spent so much of my time with over the last 12 years.

“There are many people I owe my sincere gratitude to who have supported and helped me along the way – most importantly, my mum and dad, sister, wife and kids.

“I also owe a special thanks to the coaches that have had a big influence on my career.”

The 30-year-old was delisted by the Bulldogs two weeks ago as the club finalised their list changes ahead of the AFL Draft.

Taken with the 22nd pick in 2008, Trengove became a staple in Port Adelaide’s team in the 2010s, playing 153 games across several roles.

He won the John Cahill Medal in 2011 as Port Adelaide’s best and fairest in just his second season, playing primarily as a key defender.

In the 2017 off-season, Trengove signed a three-year deal with the Western Bulldogs and had added a further 32 games in his first two seasons at the club, but struggled this year, only playing the singular match.
