Essendon utility Mitch Brown will remain at the club for another season, after putting pen to paper on a new one-year extenstion to stay at the Bombers.

Brown joined the club in 2016 after a year out of the game, following four seasons at Geelong between 2011-2014.

The 26-year-old was thrust straight into the deep end for Essendon last season during a tough period for the club, and played all but one match for the Bombers in 2016.

He's only featured four times this season and is currently on the way back from ankle surgery, and is hopeful he can return by the end of the year.

“I believe the Club has a bright future ahead and I’m excited to be a part what we are building towards,” Brown told essendonfc.com.au.

“I’m really enjoying my footy under Woosha and the coaching staff, and we have a talented group of players who have bought into a collective vision which I want to be a part of.

“It’s great to know the Club has faith in me, and my focus now is to get back to full fitness and have a crack at returning before the end of the season.”

Essendon coach John Worsfold said Brown's flexibility made him a valuable member of the club, and he was excited to see him progress further next year.

“Browny is a talented tall player who has really embraced his second opportunity on an AFL list. Last year offered him a chance but he was the one that needed to show how much he wanted it, which he did,” Worsfold told the club's website.

“His ability to play multiple positions for us provides the team with real flexibility, and we’re really pleased he’s going to be part of our journey moving forward.

“Mitch has been diligent with his rehabilitation, and his resilience and perseverance this year is a huge credit to him. The way he has handled his setbacks reflects the values we look for in a player to represent the Club.”
