Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has taken the lead in our MVP race after eight rounds thanks to another 20-vote performance.

The Dogs midfielder's dominant outing against the Giants saw him poll his fourth perfect game of the season - all of which have come since Round 3.

Bontempelli surpasses young Magpie Nick Daicos at the summit, while a pair of Demons are closing the gap between the top two and the rest of the competition heading into Round 9.

The Dogs, Demons and Saints now all have two players among the top 10 after eight rounds.

Reminder: votes are given out in a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 system for each game, meaning the maximum score any player can record in any game is 20.

Carlton vs Brisbane

Brisbane recruit Josh Dunkley had his best performance yet in his new colours on his way to polling unanimous best-on-ground votes from Round 8.

His dominant run through midfield was supported by Charlie Cameron's haul of four goals, while key defender Jack Payne was significant in taming reigning Coleman Medal winner Charlie Curnow.

Hugh McCluagge was another impressive Lion in the middle, while Jarrod Berry and Zac Bailey also had an impact.
