Injury prone Geelong pair, Cory Gregson and Josh Cowan have been ruled out fro the remainder of the 2017 season.

Cowan, who has struggled to string games together during his time at Geelong, managing just 16 matches since being drafted in 2009 due to various injuries, played the first two games of this season, before succumbing to an Achilles injury.

The club has decided that surgery is the best course of action for the injury to properly heal, meaning he will be sidelined for up to three months.

Gregson, who burst onto the scene in 2015, playing 20 games and kicking 13 goals, has struggled with a foot injury over the past two seasons. He played nine games last year and has not played a match this season.

The 20-year-old has been sent in for surgery once again, with the navicular injury in his foot failing to heal properly. The surgery will mean he will be in a moon boot for another six weeks and will not be able to run for another three months.

"Obviously this is disappointing for the players and our team," Geelong football manager Steve Hocking said.

"Both procedures will allow the players to move forward with the club's medical team on a rehabilitation plan."
