Blues ruckman Matthew Kreuzer underwent surgery earlier in the week, according to a report by AFL.com.au's Mitch Cleary.

It is understood that it was just a knee cleanout and Carlton expect Kreuzer to be available round one.

Carlton Director of High Performance Andrew Russell clarified the procedure on Sunday morning.

“Matthew Kreuzer had minor surgery on his knee this week,” he told the Blues website.

“We don’t expect it to be a major interruption and we’re really confident he’s going to get back to doing some game play late in the pre-season and then be ready for Round 1.

“We’re fortunate that he’s had an excellent preparation to this point and hasn’t missed a beat at all so we expect him to be in very good shape at the start of the season.”

Kreuzer joins Sam Docherty, Mitch McGovern, Will Setterfield, Darcy Lang, Jarrod Pickett and Liam Jones as Carlton players to have suffered injury setbacks over the pre-season.
