Dermott Brereton has been enlisted by the St Kilda Football Club to help forwards Josh Bruce, Tim Membrey, Rowan Marshall, Paddy McCartin, Matt Parker and Max King with their craft around goals, as a specialist coach.

The Hawthorn legend is not known for his coaching ability, but his experience with helping Jonathon Brown as well as the Pies and Giants, makes him a strong candidate to help the Saint's forwards out.

"Gubby Allan is the contact who asked me would I be interested in taking a few of the key forwards and just showing them forward craft," Brereton said on SEN Breakfast.

"All it is is a bit of one-on-one tuition or one-on-three tuition, and just showing them some game craft of being a forward.

"I get a little bit of a laugh hearing that I'm going into coaching."

The five-time premiership player downplayed his role but hopes to have a real impact on these young and impressionable forwards.

St Kilda's General Manager of Football Simon Lethlean was pleased to bring in a man of Brereton's pedigree to the club.

“We’re excited to add another really experienced and successful football person to our group,” Lethlean told saints.com.au.

“Dermie’s regarded highly for his knowledge and technical skills, and he will work directly with our key position players to help their development.”
