Richmond small forward Tyson Stengle has nominated Adelaide as his preferred destination, as he looks for more opportunity at AFL level.

Stengle has only played two games for the Tigers over the past two seasons, with both of those matches coming in 2017.

Adelaide's list manager Justin Reid confirmed the news to Trade Radio on Wednesday.

"Young Tyson has probably lacked a bit of opportunity over the last few years given the strength of Richmond's list and their smalls," Reid said.

"Tyson adds a bit of speed and goal sense for us and with Eddie [Betts] getting a little bit older it's great to have a South Australian who wants to come home and be part of the Adelaide Football Club."

Stengle played 19 VFL matches this season, and kicked 33 goals.
