Bookmaker Sportsbet has ended its relationship with senior AFL umpire Nick Foot in the wake of the Zak Butters tribunal saga last month.
It is understood that Foot was told of the decision late last week.
He was a horse racing analyst on show Get On.
"My time with the Get On racing team is something I'll always value," he said via a statement to Channel Seven.
"Broadcasting racing, working alongside close mates, and interviewing the people who make the industry tick has been a genuine highlight.
"I'm a proud horse racing and umpiring person and continue to share a passion for both.
"Playing a small part in the AFL is a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to serve the game with professionalism in my role for years to come."
The AFL had backed Foot in his role, and approved his involvement at the start of 2025 when he put in his request to join the betting company.
Zero Hanger understands the AFL doubled down in its support for Foot continuing in racing roles even after the recent controversy.
The connection made headlines when Butters was reported for abusive language towards Foot during Gather Round, saying that the Power star allegedly said, “How much are they (St Kilda) paying you?” after a free kick and 50-metre penalty was awarded to St Kilda.
Butters denied the comment throughout the entire saga, and was initially fined by the tribunal, before it was thrown out at the Appeals Board on a legal technicality.
The Foot-Butters matter has resulted in a change in policy at Sportsbet, which has ruled out employing officials from rival codes.
"Nick has appeared on our 'Get On' racing coverage in a racing‑only capacity," the statement read.
"Following feedback, we've decided to no longer feature any serving sports administrators or officials in our programming, to ensure clear separation from their official roles. We thank Nick for his work and wish him well in his umpiring career."
Foot has umpired has umpired 272 AFL games, including the 2024 Grand Final. He will continue his horse racing podcast, 2 Units, which is backed by Betfair.
