Adelaide are reportedly interested in making a play for Gold Coast's Izak Rankine, per reports from Channel 7 Adelaide

The young sun is out-of-contract at the conclusion of the season and has been linked to a move back to South Australia. The 22-year-old was drafted with pick three in the 2018 AFL draft from West Adelaide in the SANFL.

Despite being reportedly chased by the Crows, Essendon were also interested in the young forward, but a deal wasn't reached between the two.

Though the Suns would be keen to keep their scintillating young star on a long-term deal, Kane Cornes has said that Adelaide should be willing to part with at least their first pick to lure the South Australian product home.

Speaking on SEN SA Breakfast, Kornes said that the Crows should "absolutely" go all in for Rankine rather than gamble on a highly ranked draftee.

“Yes, I’m giving up the first pick, and more,” Kornes said.

“He was pick 3 (in 2018) so you’re going to give pick 4 for a known product versus someone in the draft that probably has a 50 to 60 per cent success rate at that stage of the draft. There’s a bit of unknown about it.

“Are you going to trust (recruiting manager) Hamish Ogilvie to go again with the number 4 pick after the errors they have made in the first round over recent years?

“Absolutely if Izak Rankine is there, there’s pick 4 and I’ll give you something else, let’s go and get him.”

Rankine is one of just several Suns out-of-contract at the end of the season, with Lachie Weller reportedly expected to recommit to the club on a four-year deal.
