AFL legend Nicky Winmar has been charged after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver in Melbourne earlier this year.

Back in March, Winmar is believed to have kicked a taxi driver who asked for payment upfront, with Winmar allegedly drunk at the time.

The former St Kilda star has been charged with four offences, including assault, being drunk in a public place, and recklessly causing injury.

According to Seven News, Winmar's court appearance date was moved in order to allow him to attend the opening of his statue at Optus Stadium earlier this month.
