Bulldogs, Tigers set to re-sign premiership heroes

The Western Bulldogs are set to bring back their superstar midfielder Marcus Bontempelli, with a contract extension expected to be announced in the "imminent" future.

Reports had suggested that Collingwood would make a play at the 2016 premiership player but unsurprisingly, Bontempelli looks set to continue leading the Kennel.

The Richmond Tigers have also commenced extension talks with their own premiership legend Tom Lynch with senior coach Adam Yze adamant he will be at the club next year.

"The guidance he's giving some of our younger forwards is going to be really important, not only for next year, but for years to come. He's going to be an important part of the next few years," Yze said.

Power gun locks in future after strong interest

Port Adelaide have secured the services of young gun Miles Bergman on a two-year deal, ending speculation over his future and whether a return to his home state of Victoria was on the cards.

Bergman, a damaging defensive midfielder, is averaging a career-high 18.8 disposals for the Power this season and becomes the fifth Power player to re-sign in recent months, joining  Logan Evans (2028), Kane Farrell (2030), Dante Visentini (2027) and Josh Sinn (2027).

Giants young tall gaining interest from rivals

GWS youngster Max Gruzewski looks to be a hot topic of interest among rival clubs, the 22nd pick of the 2022 National Draft currently out of favour at the Giants. While featuring in six games this season, his appearances have never seen him manage more than 68% time on ground.

Gruzewski's manager confirmed he has been in contact with clubs who are in the need for a power forward, with Gruzewski's promising play at state-level proving to be an intriguing area for these teams.

The 21-year-old has kicked 33 goals in 12 VFL games this season for GWS.

Retired Lion won't make rumoured comeback

Chris Fagan has adamantly ruled out a shock out-of-retirement return from 2024 premiership hero Joe Daniher. Reports had suggested that Daniher may return to the AFL with the Sydney Swans.

Daniher was an integral part of the Lions' 2024 premiership side, kicking 58 goals during the campaign, including two spectacular finishes in the grand final. The key forward went out on top at age 30 after playing 204 games across Brisbane and Essendon. While Daniher still had plenty to give at the AFL level, Fagan believes he is loving retirement and almost certainly will not return.
