The Collingwood Magpies have reportedly entered the Charlie Curnow sweepstakes, throwing themselves into trade talks in the hopes of luring the superstar forward from one Victorian powerhouse to another.
According to 7 News' Xander McGuire, Collingwood will be banking on a number of factors in their ploy to steal Curnow from the other circling rival clubs, including Curnow's relationship with Magpies stars Josh and Nick Daicos and the potential departures of current Collingwood forward 50 targets.
"It doesn't get much bigger than two of the biggest clubs fighting it out over one of the biggest names in the game," McGuire said on Friday.
"I can tell you that Collingwood is launching an audacious bid to land Charlie Curnow for 2026 and beyond.
"With Jamie Elliott and Brody Mihocek potentially on the out, they could have the salary cap and on-field space to do it.
"Key to Collingwood's ambition is his relationship with Josh and Nick Daicos who he is a business partner with in their alcohol beverage venture, Barry's.
"And, of course, he could also be handed the keys to the forward line that is currently contending for premierships."
One concern for the Magpies and their far-fetched hopes, however, is the reason for Curnow's desire to leave Carlton; an exit from the Melbourne football bubble. Therefore, Collingwood, being the largest club in Australia, let alone Victoria, may not be the most desirable destination for the two-time Coleman medallist.
"We know that Charlie wants out of the Blues for lifestyle-related reasons. He wants to live on the beach and get out of the Carlton spotlight which is why Geelong, Gold Coast and Sydney have been at the top of his list," McGuire said.
"However, it hasn't stopped the Pies from asking the question."

Despite the 2 x Coleman Medallist wanting out of Melbourne for lifestyle reasons - the pies have still thrown their hat in the ring.
