West Coast forward Junior Rioli is reportedly very open to accepting a lucrative, multi-year deal from Port Adelaide, per reports from Nine’s Corey Norris.
Rioli, who is not contracted beyond 2022, is reportedly weighing up a potential move to South Australia, set to have a medical at the Power in the next week.
The 27-year-old was drafted by West Coast with pick 52 in the 2016 national draft after plying his trade in the SANFL for Glenelg. The premiership Eagle played 13 games this season, averaging 12 disposals per game and kicking 14 goals for the season.
Speaking on Nine News, Norris said the prospect of Rioli requesting a trade was "almost certain" should the Eagles not match the lucrative one offered by Port.
“The Power have slapped a multi-year offer in front of him, one that’s very, very attractive,” Norris said.
“And if West Coast doesn’t match it, and it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that they will, then the out-of-contract 27-year-old is almost certain to request a trade to the Power.
“It’s understood Rioli is very open to moving back to Adelaide where he was drafted from back in 2016, when he was playing with Glenelg.
“The Power are desperate to replenish their small forward stocks given that retirement of Robbie Gray, they believe Rioli can help fill that void.”
As Rioli is not a free agent, he will need to request a trade to head to Alberton. The AFL trade period will run from October 3-12.
