Senior AFL journalist Damian Barrett has listed the order of who is leading the sweepstakes for out-of-contract Suns spaerhead Tom Lynch.

Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn are considered the frontrunners for Lynch's services, and Barrett confirmed that one of the Victorian clubs is the favourite to land him.

"If you're framing a market, the other clubs in the industry in that space say that they (Richmond) are leading that race," Barrett told Triple M.

"This time last year they got him on the hook big time, and the context has changed with them being a reigning premier, and quite possibly going back to back.

"This is all part of the consideration."

Barrett added that he believes Collingwood are ahead of Hawthorn in the queue for Lynch should he not join Tigerland.

"I'd probably put Collingwood in there right now as second.

"Knowing that Alastair Clarkson will come late, having come to this point already with getting Hawthorn into the top three.

"They (Lynch and his management) won't be exploring any options beyond those top three. That's what lies ahead."
