Brisbane and North Melbourne are said to be in discussions over a potential pick swap deal that won't be confirmed until the opening night of the National Draft on November 28.

The period for pre-draft pick swap deals met its deadline on Tuesday, with North Melbourne and Fremantle finalising a trade just hours before the window closed.

That deal saw the Roos acquire Hawthorn's future fourth-round selection from the Dockers, who in return gained Pick 43 for this month's count.

Any further pick swap deals will now be confirmed live throughout the draft, which will commence in less than two weeks and will take place over two nights, ending on Tuesday, November 29.

AFL clubs will continue to negotiate and finalise agreements on pick swaps, however the deals won't be unveiled until the draft is underway.

According to AFL.com.au, the Roos and Lions are among the clubs currently haggling over a potential pick swap leading up to the National Draft, with the deal likely to see Brisbane strengthen their standing to secure father-son prospects Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher.

The duo could both land in the first round of the draft, with Ashcroft potentially receiving a bid from GWS at Pick 1. Given the Lions possess the 2247 draft points, they currently fall short of the required tally to match a bid atop the draft board of 2400 points.

A trade with the Roos, which is understood to see Pick 40 head to the Lions, is said to be in the works.

North Melbourne would gain a future third-round selection from the Lions, while another late selection also trades hands.

The deal would also aid the Roos' own plotting to secure a father-son prospect, with the club's later selections likely to land Northern Knights product Cooper Harvey, the son of club great Brent.

Further reports this week have suggested clubs are engaged in discussions with GWS for their fourth earliest selection of Pick 19.

That selection, while placed in the second round, holds a value equal to some picks from the opening round given its place at the front of the queue for the second night of the National Draft.

Pick 19 would give its holder almost 24 hours to weigh up valuable trades with other clubs looking to leap up the order and attain a prospect that missed out on being taken in the first round.

The selection perhaps holds less value to the Giants, given they already hold Picks 1, 15 and 18 at the draft.
