With just under half of the home-and-away season left, we've now seen enough from this season's new recruits to determine whether they'll be successful or not with their new clubs.

For every trade that hasn't worked out so far (Chris Mayne to Collingwood and Tyrone Vickery to Hawthorn) a lot have been good deals for the new clubs, and we've decided to list our top five recruits of 2017.

Marley Williams (North Melbourne), Sam Mitchell (West Coast) and Michael Hibberd (Melbourne) were all notable absentees from the list, as we opted for players who have made bigger impacts at their new homes.

4. Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)

Traded to the Hawks for the 14th pick and a later swap of draft picks, Tom Mitchell has slotted straight into Hawthorn's midfield and has become one of their better players in 2017.

The 24-year-old currently leads the competition in disposals per game (35.5), and is also averaging career highs in tackles (7), inside 50s (3.9) and clearances (5.7).

His 50-disposal game against Collingwood in round nine was one of the better individual performances this season, and he's already established himself as a premier ball-winner in the league.
