With AFL clubs having returned for pre-season training, the countdown for the 2026 season is on.

Coaches begin experimenting with new game plans and younger players begin pushing for spots. Every session counts as players push for Round 1 selection.

But not all players feel the same levels of pressure, with some under far more scrutiny than others. Whether it was a failed trade move, underperformance or stalled development, these are the 10 AFL players with a point to prove in 2026.

6Harry McKay

2021 Coleman medallist McKay endured an injury-interrupted 2025 campaign, playing just 12 games for a return of 22 goals. When fit, McKay performed solidly, with his best game of the year coming in Round 23 against Port Adelaide, kicking seven goals to go with 21 disposals and six marks.

McKay will be feeling the pressure in 2026 after the departure of spearhead Charlie Curnow to Sydney. With opposition teams often tasked with stopping the pair of them, McKay is now set to receive significantly more attention from defenders.

Interestingly, McKay kicked 12 goals in the last four games of 2025 with Curnow out injured. Blues fans will be hoping this is a sign of things to come.

With Carlton looking to climb back up the ladder after a disappointing 11th-place finish, the Blues need McKay at his best.
