Melbourne has continued making wholesale changes after the departure of premiership coach Simon Goodwin, with it understood that their head of development, Mark Williams, will follow him out the door.
The 2004 Port Adelaide premiership coach has reportedly been told that he is no longer required, and will see out the remainder of the year at the Demons.
Williams held key roles following his successful stint at the Power, playing significant parts in Richmond's dynasty (2017-2020) as well as helping deliver Melbourne's drought-breaking flag in 2021.
He joined the Demons 12 months before the premiership triumph.
Williams also spent time at start-up clubs such as GWS, and the Brisbane Bears, which could align with Tasmania, as the 19th club is set to be introduced in 2028.
In 2023, Williams was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame and named AFLCA Development Coach of the Year.
"Mark's club-first approach and passion for helping our players develop both on and off the field has been first class," Melbourne GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson said.
"He has been an important part of our program, bringing great passion and energy to everything he does.
"He played a key role in our 2021 premiership, and his impact on the development of our younger players, in particular, has been significant.
"On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to thank Mark for his contribution and wish him and his family all the best for the future."
Williams could also be utilised at Carlton, who are looking for a new head of football after the club opted to walk out long-time servant Brad Lloyd.
Former Collingwood player and coach Nathan Buckley has been sounded out for the top coaching job at Melbourne, and appears the likeliest replacement for Goodwin.
Fellow experienced mentors, Adam Simpson and John Longmire, have pulled out of the race, as has caretaker coach Troy Chaplin.
