Defenders

Back Pocket - Marley Williams (North Melbourne)

Williams is relishing his role in North Melbourne's backline, locking down some of the league's best small forwards so far in 2017.

On Sunday, he kept Melbourne's Jeff Garlett to just seven touches as he failed to trouble the scorers. Meanwhile, Williams gathered 16 touches of his own, and even snagged a major in the tightly contested game.

Full Back - Alex Rance (Richmond)

While the Tigers may have had their hearts broken for the third time in as many weeks, Rance's effort on Jon Patton did not to go unnoticed.

He gathered 19 disposals, five marks and had a game-high 16 one-percenters, while limiting Patton's output to just one behind.

Back Pocket - Jeremy Howe (Collingwood)

Howe was everywhere for the Pies, particularly in the second half as they tightened the defensive screws.

He finished with 25 touches (10 intercept), 13 marks and a goal in a stellar performance.

Half Back - Nathan Wilson (Greater Western Sydney)

Wilson was outstanding in the Giants' late win over the Tigers, collecting 20 touches (95% efficiency) on his way to 765m gained (everyone's new favourite stat), the second-most of the round.

Centre Half Back - Michael Hurley (Essendon)

After a slow start to 2017, Hurley's last month has seen him recapture the form that saw him receive All-Australian honours  in 2015.

Hurley led Essendon's defence from the front on Sunday as he finished with 26 touches, nine marks and four inside 50s.

Half Back - Jake Lloyd (Sydney)

Hard running and creating space for his teammates is becoming a feature of Lloyd's game in 2017. Not only that, but he managed to tally up 35 touches (89% efficiency) and take 10 marks in the Swans' win.

Midfielders

Wing - Daniel Hannebery (Sydney)

Sydney's midfield was outstanding on the weekend as they completely dominated the match. However, it's been a welcome return to form for one of the competition's premier midfielders.

Hannebery put together a complete performance with 30 disposals, 12 marks, eight tackles, six inside 50s and two goals.

Centre - Joel Selwood (Geelong)

As per usual, when the game is on the line, this guy steps up.

In the final quarter, the Cats' skipper was instrumental, ending his night's work with 29 touches, 11 clearances, eight tackles, six inside 50s and a crucial final quarter goal to see his side home at Simonds Stadium.

Wing - Lachie Neale (Fremantle)

Is this guy a Brownlow medal chance?

On the inside or the outside, Neale is capable where ever the leather may be, as he had his way with the Blues on Sunday with 37 touches (20 contested), eight clearances, four marks and a goal as he continues to impress each week.

Forwards

Half Forward - Michael Walters (Fremantle)

While he has played higher up the field in 2017, Walters found a hybrid of his old and new self on the weekend to the tune of 27 touches (14 contested), four tackles, three inside 50s and as many goals on a day out for 26-year-old.

He is a massive reason why the Dockers incredibly sit fifth on the ladder.

Centre Half Forward - Joe Daniher (Essendon)

As a Bomber fan, it's a real joy to write this guy's name on the team sheet in back to back weeks.

He has undoubtedly earned it, showing off more of his agility on the ground against the Eagles as he complimented his five goals (no behinds!) with 18 touches, four clearances, a pair of tackles and eight score involvements.

Just how good can he be?

Half Forward - Charlie Cameron (Adelaide)

Adelaide led by five goals at half-time but it was Cameron who blew the game wide open with all four of his goals coming in the third term.

His work around the ground was also impressive as his 18 disposals and seven marks completed a strong all round game.

Forward Pocket - Mitch Hannan (Melbourne)

In a career-best game for the Demon, Hannan sparked Melbourne's attack to life after quarter time, finishing with three goals from 14 touches and five marks.

Full Forward - Ben Brown (North Melbourne)

Ben Brown has been a shining light for the Kangaroos in 2017, with his bag of five goals on the weekend taking his tally up to 26 for the year.

His presence in the forward 50 is certainly felt, as he is your typical lead up forward who crashes the pack. Seven scoring shots from 13 touches and six marks was a great return for the cult hero at Arden Street.

Forward Pocket - Harry Taylor (Geelong)

Many had been wondering whether or not Taylor's move up forward had been the right decision, but he showed up in a massive way against the Bulldogs on Friday night.

Despite just two goals to his name prior to round nine, Taylor bagged five goals in an impressive display which included five marks and five tackles from the two-time All-Australian.

Ruck - Zac Smith (Geelong)

Often maligned, Smith was arguably best on ground in Geelong's win over the reigning premiers as he compiled 25 touches, 10 tackles, eight clearances to go along with his 48 hit-outs - a career high.

Ruck Rover - Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood)

Another skipper with a major influence in his side's result, Pendlebury was instrumental in Collingwood's 61-point turnaround on Saturday night.

36 touches, nine tackles, nine inside 50s, seven clearances, 13 score involvements and 691m gained in a best-on-ground performance.

Rover - Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong)

Are we still surprised at how easy Patrick Dangerfield can break a game open?

20 of his 36 touches on Friday night were contested, while his 12 tackles, 10 clearances and four goals put the icing on the cake for his submission of all round individual performance of the season.

Interchange

Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)

The most talked about performance of the weekend was also the most history-making one as Mitchell racked up 50 touches in the Hawks' loss on Saturday night.

Regardless of how influential you think they were, finding the pill on 50 separate occasions is worthy of any team of the week.

Of his 50 possessions, 22 of them were contested as he added that to his eight marks, eight tackles and five clearances as he became just the seventh player in VFL/AFL history to reach the half-century.

David Zaharakis (Essendon)

Another Bomber whose form has returned in recent weeks, Zaharakis racked up 31 touches, along with eight marks, seven tackles, five inside 50s and three clearances as the Dons towelled up the Eagles at Etihad.

Dustin Martin (Richmond)

It's no wonder why teams are lining up for his signature beyond this season, as Martin registered 35 disposals (20 contested), 10 inside 50s, five clearances and six marks as he continued his stellar 2017 season.

Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne)

Cunnington was bullish in midfield on Sunday, stepping up in the final quarter when North needed it most.

17 of his 26 touches were in the contest as he muscled his way to eight clearances, four tackles, three marks and a goal in confidence-boosting win for his side.

What made his performance all the more impressive, was the fact he hobbled off the ground midway through the first quarter with what at the time look to be a serious knee injury, only to have it strapped and play out the game.
