The 2019 AFL Draft has turned out to be one of the strongest drafts of the last decade, headlined by elite midfield talent, with five players earning All-Australian selections and four players being key pieces in premiership sides.

It's clear now that several teams got their selection wrong, but they didn't have the hindsight that we have today, six years later.

So here is a re-draft of the top 15 of the 2019 AFL Draft, factoring in their career to date, team success, personal awards, and also their future potential.

For context, this was the original order of the top 15 picks in the 2019 AFL Draft

  1. Matt Rowell (Gold Coast)
  2. Noah Anderson (Gold Coast)
  3. Luke Jackson (Melbourne)
  4. Lachlan Ash (GWS)
  5. Dylan Stephens (Sydney)
  6. Fischer McAsey (Adelaide)
  7. Hayden Young (Fremantle)
  8. Caleb Serong (Fremantle)
  9. Liam Henry (Fremantle)
  10. Tom Green (GWS)
  11. Sam Flanders (Gold Coast)
  12. Kysaiah Pickett (Melbourne)
  13. Will Day (Hawthorn)
  14. Miles Bergman (Port Adelaide)
  15. Cody Weightman (Western Bulldogs)

4GWS select: Luke Jackson (-1)

Luke Jackson was a crucial piece of the Demons' premiership success in 2021, playing a pivotal role alongside Max Gawn. However, he ultimately left the Demons to head back home to Perth.

Jackson has shown his value and that he can be one of the most influential players in the league. His versatility has been demonstrated over the last couple of seasons, as he has played in the midfield, ruck, and kicked goals up forward.

The Giants would have been a perfect pick at the time, either becoming their first option in the ruck or taking over the Giants' forward line, but the question is, would he still head back to Perth?
