Veteran umpire Ray 'Razor' Chamberlain is notorious for getting stuck into players during games and adding some theatre to the sport.

With over 300 games of experience, Chamberlain is never afraid to speak his mind on the field, taking exception to no one.

Well, this time he's had a crack at fellow umpire John Howorth during North Melbourne and Sydney's clash Tasmania on Saturday night.

Howorth tried to break up a scuffle late in the game as the scoreboard was tightening up, leading Chamberlain to remind him of his role.

“Get back and umpire the game, John,” Chamberlain said.

“John Howorth, get in the game!”

Amid the scrutiny of umpires this season, Demons great Garry Lyon has recently questioned Chamberlain's on-field antics.

“Why does Ray Chamberlain think he can stop a game of football and go over to a player and give him one-on-one feedback?” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“While the rest of the game just stops, everyone else go and look after yourselves … I just want to have a chat with this person.

“The umpire boss should pull Ray aside and say: ‘Ray, we’re trying to keep the game moving, we’re not trying to stop it’.”
