North Melbourne is making their feelings known about drastically improving their list after yet another disappointing season, linked with the likes of St Kilda's Marcus Windhager.
The bullocking on-baller has yet to commit to the Saints beyond 2025, and is weighing up whether to seek a new destination in the hope of more permanent midfield minutes.
Windhager has largely spent time on the wings, or in run-with roles on the competition's best players, curbing the likes of Nick Daicos, Zak Butters and Marcus Bontempelli.
The Kangaroos are among three clubs chasing the 22-year-old, with Essendon and Melbourne also believed to be in the race for his services.
"There's Melbourne, North Melbourne, Essendon, and also the Western Bulldogs are a bit of a watch," AFL Media's Cal Twomey said on Gettable.
"In the Windhager chase, the Roos have a five-year deal in front of him. My understanding is that it'll take four or five years to get him out (of St Kilda) at the very least.
"That's a significant show of interest in him."
However, Twomey believed that the re-signing of teammate and housemate Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera could improve their chances of retaining Windhager.
"If Nas had gone, I think there would've been more of a chance that Windhager would've followed.
"A two-year offer from St Kilda has been there. Obviously a gap between what he's been offered there and elsewhere.
"His decision won't be swayed by Wanganeen-Milera, but it is a factor."
Twomey also revealed that Carlton restricted free agent Tom De Koning is expected to alert the Blues of his desire to depart the club following his 100th game on Thursday, and the final match of the home and away season.
De Koning is set to join the Saints on an increased offer of eight years, worth around $1.8 million, says Riley Beveridge.
The Giants defender Leek Aleer and West Coast forward Liam Ryan have also been linked with moves to Moorabbin.
