It's been 20 years, but don't tell Nick Davis that.
Let him log into the Providoor app, tee up the replay from his dog-eared Sydney Swans 2005 premiership DVD box set, and sit down to enjoy it.
The 45-year-old played 168 games during his two-club career, splitting time with the Sydney Swans and Collingwood Magpies; however, it is one match etched in his memory that is unlike any other.
Every night, his daughter, Jordan Davis, who is now part of the Sydney Swans' U18 academy, and his partner, Heather Ward, sit down for dinner.
Too often, the Davis clan insists, they do so with Anthony Hudson's iconic call:
“I see it but I don't believe it!”
Dinner is accompanied by the Swans' 2005 semi-final win over the Geelong Cats. Thankfully, it is partnered with Providoor.
“Now with Providoor, Nick's surprisingly good in the kitchen,” says Ward.
“He's always been so proud watching that game.”
Davis' heroics that night dragged the Swans back from a 17-point deficit at three-quarter time, and kept their dream of breaking a 72-year flag drought alive. It included the go-ahead goal in the final minute, which saw Davis rove a ball from Jason Ball, throwing it hurriedly onto his boot and sending the SCG into raptures.
Sydney would go on to win that semi-final clash 7.14 (56) to 7.11 (53), with Davis kicking more than half his team's goals in a scrappy affair. Davis also had 24 possessions in the match, which was only bettered on the famous night by Brett “Captain” Kirk's 25. You can be sure that Kirk and company aren't watching on quite as enthusiastically 20 years later, though.
While there isn't a lot of variety in the Davis household's viewing, there is on the Providoor menu.
With options like Luke Nguyen's butter chicken, Marco Pierre White's ready-to-roast pork knuckle, Silvia Colloca's classic Italian family lasagne, and many more, there are meals available for just about any taste.
