Disgruntled Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver has been caught meeting with GWS powerbrokers.
Oliver was told this week to explore his opportunities at rival clubs after a fiery exit meeting with new senior coach Steven King, who informed the 28-year-old that his role would look vastly different to previous seasons.
"(Thursday) was a good chance to sit down with Clayton and share how Steven and the coaches see the game being played, and where the opportunities lie for him," List Manager Tim Lamb said.
"We were upfront with Clayton around the role he is likely to play next season and the need for him to develop his craft beyond the midfield to have his biggest impact within the team.
"It was honest and respectful, and Clayton is now clear on what we see his role being next year, and how we think he can best contribute.
"Clayton is contracted for another five years. If he wants to explore his options in the upcoming AFL Trade Period, we will respect that. Should he remain in the red and blue, we will, of course, continue to support and embrace him as part of our club."
The 2021 premiership player was seen on a boat with Giants figures. Oliver said he was passing through Sydney on the way to America, as he embarks on an off-season holiday.
He joined coach Adam Kingsley, players Finn Callaghan and Lachie Ash, football boss Jason McCartney and CEO Dave Matthews.

The preliminary interest from the Giants comes as they need midfield help, and assistance for Tom Green and Finn Callaghan.
Veterans Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly have battled injury woes, and the latter may miss the majority of 2026 through a hip issue.
The Demons are also working through trade options for Christian Petracca, Steven May and Judd McVee.
As for GWS, they will welcome delisted Essendon defender Jayden Laverde as an SSP addition.
