Following news on Wednesday that saw the AFL speak to AFLW coaches on game plans and tactics from round one of the AFLW season, Foxfooty.com.au were able to obtain a memorandum sent out to all coaches regarding the discussions.

In the unbelievable email, AFL football operations boss Steve Hocking can be seen asking coaches to allow more space at stoppages, and imploring them not to have players behind the ball at a centre bounce.

Remarkably, one of the points regarding a 5/6/5 formation at centre bounces goes as far as saying the umpire will not start play until the formation is met, meaning it's almost as if a new rule has entered the season after one round.

One AFLW club official in particular was upset with the memo, telling Fox Footy the AFL should look elsewhere if they purely want entertainment.

“Vegas has plenty of showgirls if they want a ‘performance’ ... but if you want better footy, let the coaches teach it! We are 9 rounds into a competition for goodness sake,” they told foxfooty.com.au.

The AFL originally took exception to the style of play on Friday night, as a defensive struggle between Carlton and Collingwood saw zero goals after half-time and a 22-14 final score.
