The Demons have locked in the panel to select the club's next senior coach.

The group of six is set to include key figures from the Demons board, including Club President Brad Green, incoming CEO Paul Guerra, and board member Steven Smith.

However, there are a few notable names who have been sourced externally.

Melbourne Storm's General Manager of Football, Frank Ponissi, will make a code switch to assist with the hunt, while Essendon legend Jobe Watson and former senior coach of St Kilda, Alan Richardson, are set to embark on the search with Melbourne too.

Ponissi boasts a remarkable resume of success, involved in 17 Finals appearances and three premierships during his 18-year tenure with the Storm while working with arguably one of the best coaches in Australian sport, Craig Bellamy. The wealth of knowledge he will bring to the search is undoubtedly a key factor for the Demons.

Alan Richardson was St Kilda's senior coach between 2014 and 2019, recording a 34.1 per cent win rate over 126 games. The Saints never played in September during his tenure.

The Demons have also included an "accomplished human resources executive" on the panel, with the Chief People and Culture Officer at Articore Group, Meahan Callaghan, joining the other five.

In a statement released on Thursday, Melbourne said the process of finding their next coach would "begin immediately", with the view that an appointment would be made by late September.
