Carlton and Fremantle are believed to be in the market for defensive assets, showing interest in contracted Hawks backman Changkuoth Jiath and unsigned Demons youngster Judd McVee, respectively.
Jiath's future with the Hawks has been speculated on as he continues to be left out of the starting side, having been the sub in the club's two recent finals.
The 26-year-old has battled with both form and injury to be kept to 19 games, and finds himself behind the likes of Jarman Impey, Karl Amon and Blake Hardwick in the Hawks' pecking order.
Jiath's upside has him well placed among the most damaging halfbacks in the competition given his run and carry out of defence.
Speaking on the Tradies podcast, reporter Sam McClure revealed Carlton has emerged as a likely landing spot for Jiath.
The Blues, who are lacking run out of the backline, would need to trade for Jiath, given he is under contract.
"'CJ' is probably going to the Blues," McClure said.

"There's definitely strong interest from Carlton."
McVee is off-contract and believed to be weighing up his future, with the Dockers "working really hard" to pry him out of Melbourne and back to his home state of Western Australia.
Speaking on the situation surrounding McVee, 7 News' Mitch Cleary revealed a decision is likely to come soon now that the Demons have appointed a new senior coach in Steven King.
"Judd McVee is going to make a call this week, I believe. He was always going to wait and see regarding the new coach," Cleary said on the podcast.
"He needs to speak with Steven King about what his role will be next year. I think he wants to play a bit higher up the ground.
"Freo are working really hard on McVee."

A role further up the field could be on the cards for McVee if he was to seek a move to the Dockers, who are loaded with running defensive options already.
All-Australians Jordan Clark and Luke Ryan are mainstays in Justin Longmuir's system, while Heath Chapman and Brandon Walker look set to hold roles in the club's backline for the next decade.
The 2025 Trade Period opens on Monday, October 6, and will run for 10 days.
