Greater Western Sydney will give back to their local community over the coming weeks, delivering 5,000 meals to those in need in Sydney's west.

The club announced the launch of the 'GIANT Hand' project on Friday, a partnership with the community to provide 1,000 meals per week to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Staff members of the Giants, including players, that are currently residing in New South Wales will aid the initiative to deliver meals in a contactless process.

Within the club's announcement of the project's launch, GWS head of community Ali Faraj stated the initiative is a great opportunity to give back to those in need during difficult circumstances.

“One of the key planks of the GIANTS purpose is to enrich the lives of the communities in which operate and many communities in Western Sydney are currently dealing with challenges they’ve not seen before. We know of a lot of people who, for various reasons, who are struggling to put food on the table for their families right now, which is why we’ve devised this initiative.

“The ‘GIANT Hand’ program wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Multicultural NSW and our community partners, and we encourage everyone to do what they can to assist those in need during this difficult time.”

Giants CEO David Matthews also stated his excitement in being able to help those within the local community.

“We have always prided ourselves on our contribution to the community and this initiative is a great example of the work being done in this space.”

NSW minster for multiculturalism Natalie Ward expressed her gratitude to the Giants for their helping hand among unprecedented times.

“The GWS GIANTS should be congratulated on this wonderful program to provide meals to some of our most vulnerable members of our community, at a time when they really need it,” Mrs Ward said.

“They truly are giants of the community. It’s so important we all work together and support each other as we confront this pandemic.”
