The Gold Coast Suns have announced a new sponsorship agreement with global car rental company SIXT, set to become their major partner for the next three years.

The club made the announcement on Thursday, with veteran Sun Alex Sexton agreeing to go by Alex Sixton as part of the partnership announcement.

The new deal, which will see SIXT come on board as a jumper sponsor, comes in the wake of Metricon deciding not to renew its partnership with the club beyond this year, leaving the Suns' home ground without a stadium rights agreement.

Gold Coast Suns chief Mark Evans said the new deal was "monumental" for the club.

โ€œThis is a monumental announcement for the club to be joining forces with SIXT as our new Co-Major Partner,โ€ Evans said.

โ€œTo attract an international brand like SIXT shows the progress our club is making off the field to give ourselves the best opportunity to contend on-field.

โ€œAs a national sporting team in one of the premier tourism destinations in the world here on the Gold Coast, there are fantastic opportunities for SIXT to go above and beyond in growing their brand and suite of mobility products in our community, and likewise we hope to attract new fans to the SUNS.

โ€œWe're also excited about the opportunities to create unique activations with SIXT at Metricon Stadium and on SUNS match days โ€“ opportunities that cannot be rivalled by any other professional team in Australia.โ€

Speaking earlier to the Courier Mail, Evans said that the deal would allow the Suns to overtake South Australia as a major TV market for the game.

โ€œIn the COVID years, when we brought every game and every team up here, it really activated south east Queensland even more and within the next three to five years Queensland will be a bigger TV market than South Australia for the AFL,โ€ Evans said.

โ€œWe do more than probably any other club investing into local coaching and local clubs to try and keep kids connected to the sport for longer and become lifelong fans."
SIXT will feature on both the AFL and AFLW playing guernseys.
