The Geelong Cats have been the kings of the trade period for some time now, seemingly in the conversation for every out-of-contract star. The club has secured the rights to several big fish up for grabs in the last decade, most notably Patrick Dangerfield, Jeremy Cameron and Bailey Smith.
While the list build at Geelong has been a strong one, there are still areas of concern that need to be addressed. The ruck situation at Kardinia Park has long been scrutinised, and it remains the weakest element of their roster.
With several key figures in the twilight years of their stellar careers in the likes of Mitch Duncan, Dangerfield and Mark Blicavs, the Cats' stocks across the ground will need some retooling. While the development of young stars such as Shannon Neale and Ollie Dempsey will help this cause, it's not a be-all-end-all solution.
So, here are five trade and free agency targets for Geelong to consider this year.
3Rowan Marshall

Geelong's case to land Rowan Marshall requires a lot to go their way, but it's certainly not out of the question.
The Saints are in a strong position to secure the talents of Tom De Koning on a massive contract, an addition that could push Marshall out of the number one ruck role at the club.
Marshall has reportedly wished to hold a number one ruck position, and if he does want out of St Kilda before his current contract expires in 2027, Geelong could be involved in a bidding war for his talents, according to 9 News' Tom Morris.
Securing Marshall would instantly bolster Geelong's dynamism with their tall stocks, with Marshall having the capability to present as a legitimate forward target and aerial threat, as well as a dominant ruck. So far in 2025, Marshall is averaging 27.6 hitouts per game, 4.2 marks and 6.3 score involvements, which ranks him fourth among rucks. This is coming off an All-Australian calibre year in 2024 where he was shockingly left off the squad, where he averaged 5.8 marks per game, 4.7 score involvements and 26.4 hitouts.
If he becomes available this off-season, Geelong would be silly not to try to work out a trade with the Saints and take Marshall's talents down the highway.
