GWS coach Adam Kingsley remains "dumbfounded" over the lingering injuries that is plaguing important duo Stephen Coniglio (glute) and Brent Daniels (abdominal).
The pair haven't been sighted since Rounds 3 and 4, but remained in the hunt for senior selection, albeit pulling up short when the final teams were announced.
Kingsley shed some light on what the Giants are doing to solve the mystery surrounding the frustrating injuries.
"That glute issue that (Coniglio) has had is still lingering, so we haven't managed to get to the bottom of that," Kingsley said on Thursday.
"Brent Daniels is the same. He still hasn't recovered, so we're a little dumbfounded about why they're taking so long.
"That's what our medical department's been doing, is searching the world around.
"Because (Daniels') is such a strange or uncommon injury, that's exactly what our medical team have been doing and trying to get to the bottom of exactly how we can fast-track that recovery."
The club revealed that Daniels will be given up to a month to overcome the abdominal issue, while Coniglio remains a test for this week.
Coleman medallist Jesse Hogan will suit up against the Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval after missing last week's loss to Adelaide.
Hogan was pulled from the trip to South Australia due to soreness but is raring to go against the Bulldogs defence.
Kingsley is also weighing up who he should send tagger Toby Bedford to, with Marcus Bontempelli the likeliest of targets.
Bontempelli returned last week from a "complex calf injury" in the pre-season, collecting 30 disposals and kicking two goals in an outstanding performance.
Bedford has run with the competition's players to good effect in recent weeks, and will need to do the same on Saturday.
"Toby's done a really good job against Cripps (Patrick, Carlton captain), who's the same size," Kingsley said.
"If that's the way we go, then I'm not overly concerned with the size.
"It just depends whether he (Bontempelli) plays midfield or forward for them, but he's an outstanding player.
"Probably the best, if not one of the best players in the competition ... so he'll certainly come into considerations."
Kingsley also noted Ed Richards and Tom Liberatore as focus points during the match committee.
The final teams will come out at 6:20 pm (AEST).
