The Adelaide Crows have stood down young forward Tyson Stengle for an undisclosed off-field incident.

It marks his third indiscretion in the space of nine months - getting handed a four-match ban in April for a drink driving incident in March and being stopped by police with former teammate Brad Crouch in September with possession of a prohibited substance.

The club released the following statement on the matter on Monday morning.

"Adelaide is aware of an off-field matter involving young forward Tyson Stengle who has been stood down from all club duties effective immediately as the Club ascertains all relevant details on the situation.

"The Club is working closely with the AFL and AFL Players Association, as well as Stengle’s management in relation to this matter.

"While the Club acknowledges there will be significant media and public interest, it is not in a position to make further comment at this stage. More information will be provided as soon as possible."

According to 7NEWS Adelaide, the Crows were shown an image of the 22-year old appearing to take an unidentified illicit substance.
