Collingwood veteran Brody Mihocek is set to join Melbourne this off-season.

An unrestricted free agent, Mihocek can depart the Magpies in favour of a move elsewhere with no restrictions in place from his current club.

Collingwood confirmed Mihocek's intentions on Saturday, with list management lead Justin Leppitsch thanking the veteran forward for his contribution to the club.

“Brody has played a key role within our football program over the past eight years, and we thank him for his contribution to the black and white,” Leppitsch said.

“We respect Brody's decision to pursue his free agency rights and explore opportunities at Melbourne.

“We wish him, his partner Polly and their son Arthur all the best for this next chapter. As a 2023 Premiership player, Brody will always be a Collingwood person.”

The details of Mihocek's contract with the Demons will decide whether the Magpies receive compensation for his departure, and what range the selection will fall into if compensation is triggered.

Mihocek joins Melbourne as a premiership player and five-time leading goalkicker for the Magpies, with the 32-year-old playing 159 games since being recruited as a mature-aged draftee in 2017.

It is understood to be on a two-year deal.

The Port Melbourne product has kicked 267 goals in his time in the top flight, booting 34 or more goals in five of his eight seasons with Collingwood.

Mihocek's move to the Demons will come in the same period that sees Melbourne attacker Charlie Spargo head to North Melbourne, with any free agency compensation for that change to potentially be diluted by the signing of Mihocek.
