The AFL's hamstring curse has spread to the Western Bulldogs, with star midfielder Tom Liberatore set to miss the club's next two games.

Liberatore played out the clash with Adelaide on Friday night, but scans revealed a standard hamstring strain.

The only positive is the timing of the injury given the Dogs have the bye this coming weekend and are in the midst of a 16-day break.

Liberatore will definitely miss the Dogs' Round 4 outing against Essendon and is also expected to be miss the flight to Adelaide for the Round 5 Gather Round fixture against Hawthorn.

Although the likes of Marcus Bontempelli and Ed Richards have stolen the headlines, Liberatore has been in vintage form in the opening weeks of the season.

His work at the coalface has been integral in victories against Brisbane, Greater Western Sydney and Adelaide.

Eight of Liberatore's 28 disposals came in the final term against the Crows.

The injury will increase speculation about the return of Adam Treloar, who pushed through unscathed in the VFL at the weekend.

Small forwards Josh Dolan and Arty Jones appear to be ahead of Treloar for a spot in the AFL lineup, meaning he may have to remain patient.

Liberatore's absence means Ryley Sanders is likely to get more midfield time against the Bombers and Hawks in coming weeks.
