Essendon's injury crisis has extended into another week as the Bombers look set to lose another young talent in the final month of their 2025 campaign.

Key forward Archer May appeared to roll his right ankle during the fourth quarter of the Bombers 44-point loss to Geelong on Friday night and sat out the remainder of the match. Vision showed him looking in discomfort on the bench with ice wrapped around the injured ankle.

Bombers senior coach Brad Scott provided an update on the 20-year-old post-game, sharing concerns that May suffered a sprain "at minimum".

"He's got an ankle sprain at a minimum," Scott said.

"We're keeping some of these radiologists in business at the minute, so he'll go and get it scanned tomorrow, and we'll see how bad he is. But he's pretty sore at the moment."

Additionally, rookie Luamon Lual was substituted from the game during the second quarter following a nasty fall in a marking contest. While neither the Bombers medical team nor Scott confirmed the specifics of his injury, his soreness following the frightening incident was enough to have him removed from the field.

"[Lual] was very sore, but he was able to function, and he competed hard," Scott said post-game.

"But we just felt that, while he was able to function, he was sore, so we needed to make the sub anyway. He was the obvious candidate, to us."

Essendon have now lost eight consecutive games, slumping to a record of 6-14. They'll look to rebound with a win over St Kilda next Friday night.
