Multi-platinum-selling Australian singer-songwriter Pete Murray will grace the MCG on Friday when Collingwood and Essendon face each other in the traditional Anzac Day fixture.

The 30th year of the marquee clash is expected to host over 90,000 supporters, with Murray to be a part of the pre-game celebrations.

"Both ANZAC Day and the annual AFL ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon are part of Australian history, so it's going to be a great honour for me to play at this game in front of a full house at the MCG," Murray said.

Murray has sold over 1.2 million albums, including three ARIA chart-topping albums, and has amassed 17 ARIA Award nominations across his career.

His hits include โ€˜Better Days', โ€˜Opportunity', and โ€˜So Beautiful',  and recent new singles 'Wouldn't It Be Good' and 'I Am Fire' from a new album set for release later this year.

AFL EGM of Customer and Commercial Bec Haagsma said it was exciting for Murray to perform at this year's clash between the Pies and Bombers, and was a fragment of the true meaning of the day.

"The AFL is excited to have a beloved Aussie artist in Pete Murray join us to perform at the MCG as part of our 2025 ANZAC Day presentation," Haagsma said.

"This year marks the 30th anniversary of the AFL's traditional ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon โ€“ a match that has grown to become one of the most special days on the football calendar.

"My family and I feel very strongly about ANZAC Day. From visiting ANZAC memorials in country towns, to attending ceremonies at our major sporting events, we respect this as an important national occasion.

"I'd encourage all fans attending matches across the weekend to arrive early to soak up the atmosphere and pay their respects to the sacrifices of our past and present service men and women."

Last year, Australian alternative rock band Something for Kate performed. Augie March was 2023. Lime Cordial in 2022.
