Anita Frawley has spoken out for the first since her husband Danny’s death, via a statement.

In the statement, she revealed that Danny Frawley’s mental health had deteriorated in the weeks leading to his death, and that he had opted to come off his medication eight months ago.

“At this point, Danny felt invincible, like the true competitor and proud man that he was; he felt that he had beaten the disease. In fact, he felt bulletproof,” the statement said.

Mrs Frawley shared her final memory of her husband, to be “a night spent sitting around our family table, playing board games and laughing,” on the St Kilda legend’s 56th birthday, the day before his accident.

Mrs Frawley also urged that until investigations have closed, nothing can be said for certain.

There will be a public farewell for Danny Frawley at the St Kilda Football Club this Wednesday at 3pm. The family has asked for donations to Beyond Blue in place of flowers and envelopes will be available on the day.

Mrs Frawley also offered this quote from her husband as a final note.

“Manning up in the past was to suffer in silence, manning up now is to put your hand up.”
