Adelaide skipper Jordan Dawson won't face Geelong on Thursday after reporting calf tightness following the narrow loss to the Western Bulldogs.
The Crows are bound for GMHBA Stadium, but given the short turnaround, coach Matthew Nicks wasn't willing to risk Dawson.
"He won't play, Daws, we couldn't quite get him ready with the short break and travel, so we won't take the risk," Nicks said.
"He's got a bit of calf tightness, we're on a pretty tough schedule at the moment, which is one that we want with the Thursday and Friday nighters, but there's a few six dayers in there, so there's a bit of management in what we're doing.
"We'd love to be taking the Captain across, but he's not quite ready."
Callum Ah Chee (hamstring) and Rory Laird (calf) are also outs following injuries last week.
Veteran forward Taylor Walker will also be managed for the blockbuster clash, while defender Josh Worrell has been confirmed healthy to tackle the Geelong forwards.
Walker's management opened the door for Finnbar Maley to debut for the club after crossing from North Melbourne during last year's trade period.
The 35-year-old detailed how Maley would be used against the Cats, pinching in the ruck as a second option in support of Lachlan McAndrew, while also providing the third tall inside 50 alongside Riley Thilthorpe and Darcy Fogarty.
"We're probably exploring the avenue of playing two rucks," Walker said on Triple M.
"So, he (Maley) will play a little bit of second ruck and then play a little bit ahead of the ball. He can jump, he gets at the ball, he's ultra-competitive. I'm looking forward to seeing him play on Thursday night.
"He's going to create a big contest, he'll split packs, he'll get at the ball, he jumps at it, he's very electric."
Maley's selection could also free up Thilthorpe from ruck duties.
Adelaide will announce its final 23 Wednesday, 6:20pm (AEST).
