Brendan Fevola has labelled this Carlton team as the worst side to play in the history of the AFL.

Speaking on Fox FM's Fifi, Fev and Byron, the former Carlton star said "it literally is the worst side ever to play football."

"I played in a pretty crap side, but they are crapper," he said.

Carlton fell to a 1-16 record after its loss to Hawthorn by 72 points on Sunday.

Fevola played 187 games for Carlton, which included wooden spoons in 2002, 2005 and 2006.

Carlton looks set to collect its fifth wooden spoon in the past 17 seasons, sitting three wins off second last placed Gold Coast with five games left in season 2018.
