Collingwood have confirmed that young star Nick Daicos will retain the No.35 jumper beyond the 2022 season.

Daicos joined the likes of Brodie Grundy, Jordan De Goey, Jaidyn Stephenson and Oliver Henry in pulling on the heralded number as part of the club's contemporary tradition to hand the guernsey to their earliest draft selection.

The decision was made following the retirement of club great Simon Prestigiacomo, while it's the same number Daicos' father and Collingwood champion Peter also wore across 250 games in the black and white.

After a stellar first season with the Magpies, where Nick claimed the AFL Rising Star Award, Collingwood have decided to keep the young ball magnet at locker 35 for 2023.

“I am beyond grateful to be able to continue to wear the number and build on its legacy at the Collingwood Football Club,” Daicos said in a club statement.

“It is not lost on me what an honour it is to pull on the Collingwood jumper with the number 35 on the back and what this number means to the Magpie community.

“Presti has gone down as one of the most selfless and professional players in the league and I could only hope to mirror his attributes for the remainder of my football career.

“The jumper also has a strong connection with my immediate family – it is the number I have worn since I was a child running around in junior football – and it is one that I always dreamed of wearing at the elite level and over the course of this year that link felt even stronger.

“Each day the number 35 will be a reminder of the significance this jumper holds and I will make sure I do the number and the Club proud."

Daicos played 25 games for Collingwood in his first season with the club, averaging 25.76 possessions, 4.12 rebounds 50s and 4.08 marks per game.
