Young Carlton forward Jack Silvagni will sit out the second half of the Blues' match against Sydney at the MCG after picking up a shoulder injury.

Silvagni left the field midway through the second quarter after getting up gingerly following a collision with Sydney's Zak Jones on Carlton's half forward line.

The 19-year-old left the field holding his arm and went straight down into the rooms, and will finish the afternoon with just two disposals and one mark to his name.

He'll have scans over the coming days to determine the extent of the injury.
