Kane Cornes believes Carlton's inability to put teams away will prevent them from playing finals this season.

The Blues let slip a 31-point lead against Hawthorn on Friday night which was their fifth defeat of the season.

โ€œI canโ€™t get a read on them,โ€ Cornes said onย SENโ€™s Crunch Time.

โ€œThey were 42-points up against Geelong and they hang on to just win, they are 30 points up against North Melbourne and win by a goal, they were 31 (points) up against Hawthorn and lose by 31.

โ€œThe fluctuations within games of what theyโ€™re delivering is not reflective of a side that is ready to go to the next step."

Carlton face West Coast and Fremantle at Optus Stadium in their next two games.
