The Western Bulldogs have confirmed that Ben Reid has been elevated to an assistant coaching role after the shock departure of Matt Spangher.

Spangher reunited with Hawthorn earlier this month, ahead of the beginning of pre-season, vacating the forwards coach.

Reid, who'd previously been at the club in a developmental role, has assumed the forward line coaching position, working closely with club legend Brad Johnson.

“It's been a great first 12 months. I'm lucky enough to work with so many great coaches and learn a lot from them," Reid said.

"To finish off the year with the VFL guys and the young guys playing in a premiership was pretty special.

"Looking forward now to continuing to grow, learn more and more, and keep building those relationships that I think are really important.

"We're not too far off if we get a few things right-it's an exciting time."

Johnson works on a part-time basis, and will support the premiership Pie with the Bulldogs' forwards as well as their goal kicking.

Daniel Pratt will continue to work under senior coach Luke Beveridge as the backline mentor, while Brendon Lade will take care of stoppages.

Former Saint Jarry Geary has been focusing on the club's ability to transition.

Luke Power (head of development) and Anthony Barry (development coach) are new additions to the club ahead of 2026.

Reid started his coaching career as the Head Coach for Wangaratta in the Ovens & Murray competition.

He played 152 games for Collingwood, winning the premiership in 2010, and retired in 2020. His father, Bruce, played 86 games for Footscray between 1977 and 1982.
